Spring Turkey

Spring has sprung in Eastern Kentucky.  A great hatch a couple years ago has given us a ton of two year old birds.  It looks like it is going to be a tremendous season.  All our properties are holding numerous strutters.

I took a trip last evening down the Licking River to do a little bit of hybrid bass fishing.  It was a very good couple hours.  The trip alos rekindled the idea of doing the “Outpost” idea of turkey hunting the river.  The idea would be to have a spike camp set up along the river where the hunter and guide would use as a base camp.  You’ll spend the day floating the river locating a bird, coming ashore and getting after it.  If you think that this sort of trip would be of any interest, let me know.  We might need a couple test monkies.

The state of Kentucky has set the dates for the spring turkey season.  The dates are, April 17th -May 9th.  We’ve seen tons of two and three year old birds ready to make their way to the fields and your set up.   Make your plans now to get yours and don’t forget to bring the kids.

Welcome to Straight Creek!

December 13th, 2009

by Bill Konway

Welcome to the new Straight Creek Outfitters blog.  The intention is to create a place for booked hunters to get the latest up to the minute details on game movement and weather conditions.  Also a place for those who have not booked, to wish they had.

Currently were in the last few weeks of deer season and have had several good deer killed here.  We are planning  changes that will be made to our ground, food plots, stand locations for the start of next season, and preparing for spring turkey season which is just around the corner.  Two year old toms are absolutely everywhere thanks to a good hatch 2 years ago consisting of a majority of males.  Spring turkey season here this coming year will likely be one of the best in a lot of years.  That’s saying a lot considering we have a tremendous population and habitat for them.  We’ll get some photos up soon both of the deer taken this fall as well as the winter groups of turkey roaming our land.

We’re looking forward to hunting with you this year!
