Early Season Archery, Hunt Camp A, September 6- October 31
Very few states offer early season whitetail bow hunting and only one in the eastern US offers a season early enough to take a whitetail still in his velvet stage. Here in Kentucky a bow hunter has the opportunity to hunt velvet covered racks during the first couple weeks of the archery season. This may also be the best time of the entire season to pattern whitetails coming to and from feeding and bedding areas, and best of all in most cases they will be traveling in bachelor groups of three to half dozen or more.
If you can’t make the early season or a velvet buck isn’t on your short list of deer hunting accomplishments don’t let this slow you down, there are 8 more weeks of pre-rut action to enjoy. Hunting the first rub-lines of the year is also a great time to pattern whitetails along with light rattling while the bucks are breaking up and establishing their home turf for the season.
We all know what the effects of the leaves turning and the wind becoming steady from the north west has on hunters as well as the bucks lurking in the timber, during our last couple weeks of October, Kentucky may be the most beautiful place to hunt anywhere in the country with the hardwood leaves falling and carrying the brightest colors of the year. Words can’t describe the feeling you will get while watching a great whitetail buck making his first scrapes of the year in these ankle deep fall leaves. Plump does picking up fresh acorns will be of plenty, also for the taking.
Archery Rut Hunting, Hunt Camp B November 1 – 6
This limited one week archery camp is focused on the majestic whitetail rut. Getting the jump on the rifle season, bow hunters will be able to hunt bucks that are gearing up for the rut to kick into high gear. This may be the best time for aggressive rattling and calling, maybe over a decoy while standing high above a hot scrape atop a Kentucky ridge line where whitetail bucks will be traveling in search of the first hot doe coming into estrus. Bow hunters will be encouraged to hunt all day maximizing this short window of opportunity. After years of experience we have come to understand that no matter the weather conditions, the days are getting shorter triggering the rut cycle and bringing an urge upon the bucks to travel day and night in pursuit of there destiny. Join us for this golden period of the season that everyone dreams of when thinking about whitetail deer hunting.
Archery Post Rut Hunting, Hunt Camp C November 18- January 19
Never underestimate the effectiveness of the second rut phase and the post rut portion of the season. The long hard rut has drained energy from their bodies causing the whitetail to throw caution to the wind and become more vulnerable than any other time of the year. While this second rut phase will be spotty, this is a prime time to take advantage of the need to feed. Normally its cold and the deer are forced to feed earlier in the evening and later during the mornings trying to rebuild the much needed fat layers for the upcoming winter. Bring your cold weather gear and enjoy late season whitetail hunting in the Kentucky foothills.
